I applaud the government's effort to encourage citizens to lead a greener lifestyle by initiating campaigns such as "Bring Your Own Bag" day etc... However, it is obvious that majority of the citizens do not take such campaigns seriously as almost "none" of them are seen to use their own reusable bag after checking out their items. Since such campaigns will not work, why not adopt policies such as those of Ikea's in which customers will have to pay for plastic bags if they request for any. I understand that during BYOB, supermarkets will also charge 10cents for every plastic bag but frankly speaking, it does not alert customers the importance of going green. Thus, I personally feel that if "diplomacy" fails to raise the awareness of being green, why not use "force" instead as those implemented by Ikea.
